99 Flake or Twister

As we stumble through adulthood, we update our software with new content. Better to update the software or take on a new challenge when stressors are low. The challenge should be easy enough to attain but hard enough to be worthwhile.

.

An update I made recently is lowering carbohydrate intake on easy training days. Fasting and ketones. Fat adapting. Insulin on the brain. All interesting topics in optimising endurance and cognition. Now is a good time for me to research and restrict.

.

If we have too many options we tend to fantasise about the opportunities not taken. Take an ice-cream for example. Delicious dairy goodness. All of them. Yet the more ice-creams to choose from the less pleasure to be had in the chosen one. The brain compares the total of the best bits of all alternative ice-creams relative to the chosen ice-cream. Not only does more choice reduce the power to decide but also the level of satisfaction to be had from the eventual choice. It's a comparison destined to leave you bummed-out and bloated.

.

Where there's comparison there's opportunity cost. Lowering carb intake will be an interesting experiment in restriction. Trial, self-correct, move forwards. This post isn't about diet. It's that we look at choice as freedom, when some freedoms are in the restriction. You can truly enjoy the 99 Flake if you aren't looking at the neighbour holding a twister.
